Radcliffe Win The Cup

Radcliffe took part in the inaugural Fleetwood Invitation Cup on October 10th. 8 teams took part in 2 groups of 4 with the top two from each group going forward.
Radcliffe went through with 3 wins out of 3, meeting hosts Fleetwood in the semi. Honours were even at the final whistle, so the result was decided on “sudden death” penalties. Radcliffe scored from their first shot, only for Fleetwood to miss theirs.
In the final, against a team combining members of both Bridgefield and Liverpool Uni, the play was end to end in what was a very tense, close match. With 10 seconds left on the clock, the score was one all when Radcliffe’s attack on goal broke down. Bridgefield goalkeeper threw the ball to one of their players only for a great interception by Radcliffe. Following a quick sprint and, seeing the goalie off his line, a well aimed shot put Radcliffe ahead by 1 goal and ultimately winners off the Cup.

In the Bolton and District Senior Knock Out cup, the team progressed as far as the semi finals, being knocked out by Bridgefield. Bridgefield will go on to play Stretford in the final at the end of October.
Revenge was sweet however, when just a few weeks after that match, Radcliffe beat Bridgefield in the league competition, thus spoiling Bridgefield’s season of straight wins without a loss. A recent win against Lancaster at home also ended yet another teams run of success. Lancaster had drawn a couple of games, but their first loss of the season was to Radcliffe, again in the B&D Senior League.
So with 2 matches left to play this season, who knows just where in the league Radcliffe will be placed.
