Water Polo

Junior Section

Lancaster Water Polo Tournament

The Radcliffe U-12 Water Polo squad took part in a Development Water Polo Competition in December.

Our results in game order were, with Half time scores in brackets -

Radcliffe (0) 1 ORCA (2) 4

Radcliffe (0) 1 Sedgefield (3) 5

Radcliffe (0) 0 Tyldsley (2) 6

Radcliffe (4) 5 Warrington (0) 2

Radcliffe (2) 5 Bridgefield (4) 4

Radcliffe (1) 2 Lancaster (4) 8

Radcliffe (0) 0 Ripley St. Thomas (1) 4

We finished a very creditable 6th out of 8 and George Johnston was named our MVP.

Thank you to all of the squad, especially, to those who have had very little previous experience, for representing the Club so well and to the families who attended and supported the team so vociferously.

Radcliffe has entered the B&D 12 & Under League and M&D 14 & Under League this season.

Club History

Many of you may not know that Radcliffe Swimming Club was formed in 1899. The club has a long and varied history and further details about the long history of the club can be found in the book ’ The History of the Radcliffe Swimming Club from 1899 to 1999’ by Barry Carr, William H Pearce, Jr, Eric Simister and Alan Pearce. Copies of this book are available in local libraries or can be obtained by contacting Mark Evans at mevans553@btinternet.com

Looking back 100 years ago the book documents some of the things that were going on in 1916. There were two pieces of sad news, the clubs first president Colonel J. J. Mellor passed away and the Club Secretary, George Arthur Terrell, was killed on 1st July in the First World War.
